Serious Face.

Now don't get me wrong, I feel as remorseful as the next person with regards to the recent events in London. The fact of the matter is it's hardly the worst event in history, and I'm fed up of the fact the media make out it is. For 20-something years, the UK was bombed incessantly by the IRA, provisional IRA, real IRA, basically people with explosives from the Republic of Ireland. Hundreds, nay, thousands of lives have been lost over the years.

Now don't get me wrong, I feel as remorseful as the next person with regards to the recent events in London. The fact of the matter is it's hardly the worst event in history, and I'm fed up of the fact the media make out it is. For 20-something years, some of the worst bombings ever seen in civilian locations such as Harrods, Oxford Street, the city of London, and Manchester city centre to name but a few, were all perpetrated deliberately to cause disruption to the surrounding area and display the ability to take life like it doesn’t matter.

On Thursday, London saw a spate of 4 bombings with approximately 10 lbs of explosive in each bomb (you already know this, unless you have been living in a large Tupperware box without contact with the outside world – Welcome to the Big Brother House). The quantity was not the significance, but the timing and placement were what did the damage. Since 9/11 terrorism has been unacceptable (was it ever?) and now the spotlight has been thrown onto the UK media. To show remorse the world’s public events have had to hold a minute's silence, such events like the Tour de France, and the British Grand Prix. Union Jacks, all over the world, are flying at half mast, and for what. As many as 50 people were killed in the London bombings. Compared to the Tsunami disaster, 9/11, the 191 killed in the Madrid bombings, and closer to home the Omagh Bombings or Enniskillen, it positively pails in comparison. I have seen more coverage of Kings Cross, Edgware Road, and Tavistock place in the past 2 days then in my entire lifetime.

And who claims responsibility for these bombings? Conveniently (for them) Al Qaeda steps up to the fore, even without proof. The Police sweep in, taking this as gospel, and set up 24 hour vigils on all London Mosques. The way I look at it, is it is just as likely to be some extreme division of the French Olympic bid organisation.

Sort it out. I know it’s a sad topic, but let’s not capitalise on it.
